Investing in our people
a1 Security views both initial and on-going training as an absolute necessity. Only through providing frequent, quality based training modules can we expect to maximise the performance and potential of all our front-line staff, and to ensure that they have the necessary tools and skills to be successful in performing their specific duties. As a1 has a training division all our staff attend accredited training courses.
Upon joining the Company, all potential new security officers have to meet the minimum training requirements. Prior to being assigned to duty, all new employees undergo five days of basic job training (BJT), which includes a one day course in conflict management. On completion of the course each new employee has to sit four formal written examinations. All staff then go onto a1 Security's continual development programme and issued with their own training passport.
Following completion of the initial classroom training, each trainee must complete a formal, documented ‘On-the-Job Training’ (OJT) programme prior to being assigned as a fully qualified Security Officer. The duration of the OJT programme is flexible dependent upon the number of contract-specific requirements.
a1 Security recommends that security officers are trained and certified in First Aid. An ‘official’ person in uniform is often the first person turned to in a crisis situation. Therefore, we believe that clients’ can operate a safer, more secure environment if security officers are trained in First Aid as well.
In January 2005, our Head Office gained the status of an authorised Skills for Security Training and Examination Centre. We train our own security officers.
Since 2005, we have become an accredited National Open College Network (NOCN) Centre, EDI, HABC and IHASCO delivering high quality and professional training in accordance with the Security Industry Authority (SIA) to all our staff as well as other security providers. All our courses are accredited, which is the training strategy of a1, and enables us to ensure our staff receive genuine, high standard training.
